MN NP and PMNP Students

Each year, 30 students admitted to the Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP) program or Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner Diploma (PMNP) will have the opportunity to complete their clinical placements within clinical sites across Scarborough and the eastern GTA, including the SAMIH Nurse-Practitioner (NP) clinic at UTSC.

MN-NP or PMNP students admitted as part of the SAMIH cohort will complete the same program objectives, learning outcomes, and online courses, in addition to in-person residencies (3 over the course of the two-year program) which will take place at the St. George (downtown) campus.

An opportunity to learn and work in Scarborough

Our expansion to the Scarborough campus is an exciting opportunity for prospective students who live and work in Scarborough and the eastern GTA, to complete their clinical placements closer to home, while accessing all of the services available to students at UTSC.

The SAMIH MN-NP and PMNP cohorts are part of Bloomberg Nursing’s efforts to promote timely access to healthcare in Scarborough, which has been identified as a geographic area experiencing health inequity due to a lack of resources and primary care providers.

What is SAMIH?

The Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH) will boost the eastern GTA’s health care capacity by training the next generation of health-care professionals within the community.

The first of its kind in Scarborough, SAMIH will train physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physical therapists to advance the region’s clinical capacity across a range of disciplines.

SAMIH, which will be housed in the Myron and Berna Garron Health Sciences Complex, will launch in fall 2026. The inaugural classes of the nurse practitioner, physician assistant and physical therapy programs will start in 2026. The inaugural class of the undergraduate medical education program will start in 2027.  Learn more about SAMIH

Both cohorts will continue to take the same classes online regardless of campus selection.

As part of the MN-NP or PMNP SAMIH cohort, students will have full access to student services provided at UTSC such as Athletics & RecreationAcademic Advising & Career CentreHealth & Wellness Centre, and AccessAbility Services.

All students in the MN-NP and PMNP field of study are placed through the same central process, which allows them to select their top choices for placements which are managed by the Bloomberg Nursing Clinical Education Office. Students in the SAMIH cohort will choose from the clinical site located at SAMIH as well as other clinical and community sites located across the eastern GTA.

The Nurse Practitioner Clinic will use a primary healthcare model where a nurse practitioner (NP) is the lead healthcare provider, working collaboratively with an interprofessional team to deliver comprehensive, accessible, and coordinated healthcare services.
