It’s with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Dorothy Duff Nelson, a former teacher and generous supporter of the Faculty.
Dorothy died peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the age of 96. She earned her certificate in nursing education 4T5 & BA, Arts & Science 5T3. Dorothy graduated in nursing from Saskatoon City Hospital and later became a teacher at U of T’s Faculty of Nursing. She went on to become the director of the Nursing Unit Administration Program at the school.
Among Dorothy’s survivors are her husband, Alvin Nelson, and her son, Robert (Bob). A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Donway Covenant United Church (230 The Donway West) on Thursday, March 31st at 11:00 a.m.

“Dorothy may well have been the last of a small group of dedicated nurses who brought nursing education into universities in Ontario, many of which remained lifelong friends. She had a long life of almost 97 years, a life well lived accompanied by a rewarding career in nursing service and for this we are truly thankful.”
